Effect of Gamma Irradiation on Oxides of Tin

چکیده

Ionizing radiation from both natural and man-made sources can affect the various organs and tissues of the body. Radiation processing is an expanding technology with numerous applications in many domains, including health care products sterilization, sewage and hospital waste treatment, polymer modifications, and food processing [1]. Moreover, real-time radiation detectors have become essential to emergency personnel when responding to accidents, environmental incidents, or terrorist attacks that may involve radioactive material. Irradiation process displaces an atom from its original site, leaving a vacant site behind (a vacancy) and the displaced atom eventually comes to rest in a location that is between lattice sites, becoming an interstitial atom. The vacancy interstitial pair is created to radiation effects in crystalline solids and is known as a Frenkel pair (FP) [2]. The presence of the FP and other consequences of irradiation damage determine the physical effects with the application of stress and the mechanical effects of irradiation. Radiation effects depend on radiation sources such as gamma rays, electrons and ions, because of the linear energy transfer (LET) deposited along the track of ionizing particles, is different for ions, electrons and gamma rays. When a γ-ray passes through matter, it ionizes via three processes depending upon the energy: the photoelectric effect, Compton scattering, and pair production. A γ-photon interacts with and transfers its energy to an atomic electron, causing the ejection of that electron from the atom [1]. The photoelectric effect is the dominant energy transfer mechanism for γ-ray photons with energies below 50 keV but it is much less important at higher energies. In Compton scattering, the interaction results in the ejection of atomic electrons. The probability of Compton scattering decreases with increasing photon energy. Compton scattering is thought to be the principal absorption mechanism for γ-rays in the intermediate energy range 100 keV to 10 MeV. Based on energy consideration, the role of pair production may be neglected in the present study. In this study, the films

Effect of Gamma irradiation and frozen storage on microbial quality of Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fillet

The effect of gamma radiation (1, 3 and 5 kGy) on microbial quality of farmed rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fillets which were stored under frozen conditions (-20° C) was studied by measuring microbiological changes in 5 months. Gamma irradiation and increasing of frozen storage time had significant effects (P < /i>

Effect of Gamma Irradiation on Fatty Acid Composition of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) Fillets

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of low-dose gamma irradiation (0, 1, 3 and 5 kGy) on fatty acid composition of Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fillet. Among all of the fatty acids, oleic acid (C18:1) (with mean 33.50±3.02 g/100 g fatty acids) and myristoleic acid (C14:1) (with mean 0.41±0.26 g/100 g fatty acids) were the most predominant and the lowest fatty acids in ...

Effect of concentration of QDs Cadmium Sulfide in Study of Optical Properties under Gamma Irradiation in Order to use in dosimetry

In this work, for the first time, effect of gamma irradiation on the optical properties of CdS (quantum dots) QDs in various concentrations was studied. The aqueous CdS QDs were synthesized in a facile and fast method by using domestic microwave oven.  Three concentration of QDs; 20, 2, 0.4 mg/cc after different administrated dose of gamma irradiation (0-20 kGy) were studied. The results showed...

Effect of Gamma Irradiation on Microbial Decontamination, Crude Nutrient Content, and Mineral Nutrient Composition of Laboratory Animal Diets

Laboratory animal models are an important part of test design. Certain conditions such as microbial contamination in diets of these models could affect the results of experiments. One of the most important routes that predispose to contamination is generated through feeding of laboratory animals. This study aimed to show the effect of gamma irradiation in reducing bacteria concentrations,...

Gamma Irradiation Effect on Asymmetric Giant Magnetoimpedance of Co68.15Fe4.35Si12.5B15 Amorphous Alloy

The giant magneto impedance (GMI) effect is a large variation in the electrical impedance of a magnetic conductor when subjected to a static magnetic field. The sensitivity to the direction (AGMI) and magnitude of applied  magnetic field    and also linearity levels   of this  effect are three important parameters in magnetic sensors application. A suitable annealing procedure can be used to ac...
